Toxic Compounds and Odour Monitoring

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), often produced by human activities, are amongst the sources of pollution that need to be identified and quantified for safety reasons. Exposure to high concentrations of certain VOCs are dangerous – even if for short durations. The impact of low concentrations of VOCs on public’s health and the environment has also become a major concern in recent years.

Chromatotec VOC Analysers

Since 1986, Chromatotec® has been recognised worldwide for their accurate gas analysis in the field of ambient air monitoring and natural gas. Gas chromatography (GC) is a common type of chromatography used in analytical chemistry for separating and analysing compounds that can be stable in the vapour state. Chromatotec’s products allow the quantification and identification of compounds over a wide range of concentrations (including ppt, ppb, ppm and % levels) using gas chromatography analysers.

airmoVOC C2-C6 (A11000) – designed for analysis + monitoring of ‘light’ hydrocarbons. It is used for the measurement of volatile hydrocarbon in the range of C2 to C6 i.e. from Ethane through 1,3-Butadiene up to Benzene (and other C6 compounds) – to a total up to 32 compounds in a single analysis cycle.

airmoVOC C6-C12 (A21022) – designed for analysis of up to 32 compounds from C6 to C12 (hexane, naphthalene up to dodecane, BTEX included). airmoVOC 624 (A24022) – designed for analysis of up to 49 compounds from C6 to C12 (hexane, naphthalene up to dodecane, BTEX included) and halogenated compounds (TO14) or (PAMS). airmOzone - by combining airmoVOC C2-C6 and airmoVOC C6-C12 analyzers with Flame Ionization Detector (FID).

airmOzone is designed to analyse both light and heavy volatile hydrocarbon compounds with effective separation and sensitivity down to ppt levels. The system is calibrated with primary gas standard certified at ±2%. The analyser is linear in the range up to 100ppb. The airmOzone system is designed specifically to measure ozone precursors as well as toxic compounds like benzene, following the European Directive 2002/3/CE (31 VOCs), and US-EPA PAMS program (56 VOCs).

airmoSCANExpert is a turnkey solution for the continuous analysis of Aromatic Hydrocarbon Compounds (PAH) BTEX and Dioxine Precursors in one single package – using a trap GC-MS/FID system. It can monitor up to 100 VOCs from % down to ultra-trace level (ppt).

Chromatotec Sulfur Compounds Analysers

Sulfur is the 5th most abundant element on Earth, occurring in its pure form or more commonly in minerals. Apart from SO2 which is a stable gas pollutant, the many reduced sulfur compounds cause Odor, toxic and corrosive concern in the human environment.

The TRSMEDOR is an automatic and isothermal gas chromatograph dedicated to sulfur compounds analysis (H2S, mercaptans, and sulfides) in different matrices. Since 1975, Medor line of instruments has been providing accurate and fast response analysis of sulfur compounds. Both in natural gas installations and sulfuric odor in ambient air for Waste Water Plant applications. With just one instrument – TRSMEDOR it is possible to analyse up to 14 different sulfur compounds. Thanks to Specific Sulfur Detector (SSD) and air or N2 carrier gas, the separation and sensitivity is excellent, down to 1 ppb levels and low odor unit/m3.

ChromaS analyser (Model C51022-1ppb) is designed for online monitoring & analysis of sulphur compounds by Gas Chromatograph (GC) using packed column and Flame Photometric Detector (FPD). ChromaS can monitorH2S, SO2, COS, CS2 and mercaptan compounds down to 1 ppb detection limits; with 2mL loop sampling into a packed column regulated in temperature. Detection is achieved by a sulphur specific photometric double flame detector.

Chromatotec VOC Chromatotec Odour Monitoring Solutions

Vigi Enose_edited.png

The vigi e-nose system is an automatic online solution to well identify the origin and quantify the level of odors based on real chemical compound monitoring and their published odor index. Sulfur and mercaptan compounds are analyzed using Medor analyser technique while total VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) can be analyzed with PID (Photo-Ionization Detector).

Features:

- Most sensitive e-nose in the market (as low as 1 ppb for H2S)

- Unique technology able to monitor total VOCs, odor unit, sulfurs speciation (H2S / Mercaptans: MeSH, EthylSH, Pro- pylSH/ sulfides: DMS/DMDS ) in ppb levels

- Odor intensity monitoring by default without training based on odor thresholds

- Odor unit concentration calculation when trained with EN13725 or ASTM 679-E04 using dynamic olfactometry

- Compared to a typical e-nose instrument, the key benefit is that it uses a measurement technique specific to gas chromatograph separated chemical compounds. It does not rely on electrochemical cells which run out of electrolyte and require annual replacement.

- The equipment are housed in a temperature-controlled cabinet to ensure continued reliable operations. There is also an option of an internal N2 carrier gas generator and no gas cylinder is required for the operation.

To ensure the performance and the representativeness of measurement, the TRS-MEDOR includes, as standard – an automatic calibration with permeation tube using DMS at 25 ppb and clean air generator, to automatically validate the results and this is without any human intervention.
